John Janitz
Co-Founding Partner & Chairman

Dominick Schiano
Co-Founding Partner & President
Evergreen Capital Partners

When it comes to big deals, there is arguably no one in Detroit is more networked and done so many big deals and transactions than Evergreen’s Dom Schiano and John Janitz.

Before founding Evergreen in 2007 Dom and John had been friends and business colleagues for over 20 years. They first met at Gulf+Western Industries, a major conglomerate at the time, and were the target of one of the early leveraged buyouts…before private equity even had a name…by The Blackstone Group and Wasserstein and Parella.

After Gulf+Western, John joined TRW as Head of the Steering Group. He was then promoted to lead the Safety Group where he was joined by Dom as head of M&A where they presided over the tremendous growth of the airbag business. They also completed a number of acquisitions and joint-ventures around the globe, including one of the earliest deals in China with SAIC in1997 as well as the acquisition of the airbag businesses from Magna and a subsidiary of Daimler Benz.

They were then recruited to Textron Automotive, John as CEO and Dom as CFO, where they were successful in turning around the underperforming business. They led the acquisitions of Chrysler’s Accustar subsidiary and The Kautex fuel tank business among others. John eventually was promoted to President of Textron and Dom to lead the Global Fastening Segment.

After Textron, Jay Alix recruited them to lead The Questor Partners Funds to add depth and real operating experience to the team. During their tenure, the Fund NAV improved significantly.

In 2007 Dom and John decided to create Evergreen based on a simple premise…to be successful, PE firms needed to go beyond financial engineering and create value through improving the business operations. They decided they would invest their own capital and partner with respected sponsors to source investment opportunities, assist in diligence, serve on boards and, most importantly, invest alongside them. They will tell you that they don’t advise anyone to invest in anything they are not willing to invest in with their own money. Since its inception, Evergreen has invested in over 40 deals totaling over $23 billion in enterprise value alongside DLJ/Credit Suisse, TPG, The Gores Group and Pacific Avenue Capital among others. Notable deals include Hostess Brands, Verra Mobility, United Wholesale Mortgage and US Farathane.

Over the years, Dom and John have each served on over 40 public, sponsor owned, joint-venture, local government and non-profit boards. Of note, John served on the Textron, and Kodak boards, Dom is currently a director of Luminar Technologies and former director of Material Sciences. Both currently serve as board members for a number of sponsor owned companies.
